Chinese Famille Rose teapot with flowers

This remarkable teapot is decorated in the Famille Rose palette with rose, green, gold, red and black.  The decoration consists of four large floral sprays. The lid is decorated with two similar sprays and has an attractive brown rim. The abundant use of attractive green enamels, is reminiscent of the Famille Verte wares from the reign of the Chinese emperor Kangxi (1662-1722). However, this teapot dates from a slightly later period, the beginning of the reign of Qianlong (1736-1795), around 1740. The height of the teapot including the lid is about 5 inches (12.5 cm).

Excellent, with some minor chips to the footring as well as a tiny frit to the spout. In addition, there is some wear to the enameled highlights.

Qianlong, circa 1740.
